TWO males have been injured in a double stabbing in London.
Stratford: Air ambulance takes off after reported stabbing
One man in his early 20s was found with multiple stab wounds to his back following the knifing in Stratford, east London around 1.40pm. Another male in his late teens was discovered less than a mile away with multiple stab wounds to his leg and buttocks. Police officers were scrambled to the scene after reports of a fight. It is not yet known if the stabbings are connected.
An air ambulance landed in the playground of nearby Colegrave Primary School as schoolchildren looked on.
One of the injured males was rushed to a major trauma centre, with both men taken to hospital by ambulance.
A Police spokesman said: "Police are dealing with two stabbings in Newham. At 13:40hrs on Tuesday, 12 February, police were called to reports of a fight at Whaddington Street, E15.
"A man, believed to be in his early 20s, was found at the locations with stab wounds to his back.
"London's Air Ambulance have attended the scene.
"Officers were called a short while later at 13:41hrs to reports of a fight at Cruikshank Road, E15.
"A man, believed to be his late teens, was located with stab wounds to his leg and buttocks. He has been taken to hospital.
"Condition update awaits on both injured persons. At this stage it is too early to say if the incidents are links."
Crime scenes have been put in place at both locations.
A London Ambulance Service (LAS) spokesman said: “We were called at 1:38pm today (12 February) to Maryland Street, Stratford to reports of an incident.
“We sent an incident response officer and an ambulance crew. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.
“We treated a person at the scene and took them to a major trauma centre as a priority.
“We were called at 1:36pm today (12 February) to reports of an incident on Cruikshank Road, Stratford.
"We sent an ambulance crew and an incident response officer to the scene. We also dispatched London's Air Ambulance response car.
"We treated a man at the scene and took him to hospital as a priority."
Eleven people have been murdered in London already this year, with at least seven of them fatally stabbed.
Last week, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) revealed the number of fatal stabbings is the highest since records began in 1946.
Some 285 people were knifed to death in the year ending March 2018.
