‘You’ve destroyed my family’ Mum’s grief after killing of 21-year-old son
A MURDER investigation has been launched after a 21-year-old man died after an attack outside a house in Wigan in Lancashire.
Officers were called by the ambulance service shortly after 9.35pm on Friday to reports a man had been assaulted on Bickershaw Lane in Abram, Wigan. William Livesley, from Platt Bridge, was taken to hospital but died from his injuries on Saturday evening. Greater Manchester Police said a murder investigation has been launched and a post-mortem examination has confirmed that cause of death was a significant head injury.
A 57-year-old was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit attempted murder, and has been released under investigation.
A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
However, he has since been released with no further action.
Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Wilkinson, of GMP's Major Incident Team, said: "This was a horrific attack on a young man who has tragically lost his life at the hands of others.
"We have specialist officers supporting Billy's family who have understandably been left completely devastated by this and my thoughts are very much with them at this incredibly difficult time.
"Detectives have been working tirelessly throughout the weekend alongside forensics and specialist officers to piece together the circumstances surrounding this horrendous incident and to ensure that those responsible are held to account.
"I would like to thank the community for their assistance and support so far and would implore anyone with any information, no matter how small or insignificant it might seem, to get in touch as soon as possible."
Mr Livesley's mother Sylvia paid tribute to him, saying: "Billy was one in a million.
They have destroyed me and our entire family
“Those responsible haven't just killed my son, they have destroyed me and our entire family.
"We will always love him and he will always be my baby.
"Billy was loved by everyone who knew him. Especially his brothers, his girlfriend Leah and all of the family.
"His little brother Teddy, niece Ivy and nephew Bailey idolised him and we will all miss him so much."
