'It's BONKERS!' Brexiteer MP has STERN warning for Remainer Rudd after Brexit intervention
BREXITEER MP Nigel Evans launched a furious attack on Work and Pensions Secretary Amber Rudd after she called on Theresa May to ditch her deal and push for a Norway-style Brexit agreement with the European Union.
Brexiteer hits out at Amber Rudd over Brexit intervention
The Tory Brexiteer urged Prime Minister Theresa May and her cabinet to listen to the 17.4 million British people who voted for Brexit and deliver on the promises made during the referendum campaign. Speaking to LBC, Mr Evans said: “What they want is a referendum with three options. One is Theresa's deal which apparently only she wants, second is the cliff-edge which everybody wishes to avoid, and third is staying in the European Union which the people rejected in the people’s vote of 2016.
This is absolute bonkers
"This is absolute bonkers.”
Amber Rudd became the first senior minister to publicly break from the official Downing Street line when she said a Norway-style deal could provide a way to break the parliamentary deadlock if Mrs May’s deal is killed in the Commons.
But Mr Evans had a stern warning for the Remain-supporting minister. He said: “I would gently remind Amber Rudd if she's listening this morning that you are now back in the Cabinet and there's such thing as 'Cabinet responsibility’.
“Floating balloons of 'Norway plus’, which is basically paying billions into the European Union in order to access the single market and have free movement of labour, is something that the people rejected and something her boss Theresa May has rejected.”
The Tory MP urged Ms Rudd to “get behind the Prime Minister” instead of pushing for something that the “British people didn’t vote for”.
He said: “Norway plus is actually a rule-taker and is actually the worst of all options.
“We know that Amber voted and campaigned vigorously for Remain. It’s about time that the Prime Minister listened to people who actually Brexit rather than listening to people like Amber Rudd.
“The Prime Minister needs to listen to the 17.4 million people and deliver what we promised on the back of that leaflet that David Cameron delivered to every household prior to the referendum.”
Brexit: Nigel Farage tells voters to prepare for second referendum
Norway is not a member of the EU but it does have access to the bloc’s single market through its membership of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and European Economic Area (EEA).
This means goods, services and people can move from the EU into Norway and vice versa.
The ‘plus’ part of the proposed arrangement for the UK relates to a customs union with the EU.
