Dog attack: Baby boy dies after VICIOUS attack by two DOGS
A NEWBORN baby boy has died after being attacked my two Staffordshire Bull Terriers a month ago, Cambridgeshire police announced today.
After the attack paramedics were called in the early hours of the morning tot he property in Wykes Road, Yakley where the bull terriers were removed and placed in kennels.
Since this time the dogs, owned by Reuben's parents Dan McNulty and Amy Litchfield, have been put down.
After the incident a man who wished not to be named at the property said: "They're in bits, they're devastated."
Reuben was taken to Peterborough City hospital with life-threatening head injures and later transferred to Addenbrooke's where he died.
Police have confirmed a 28-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man from Yaxley have been arrested on suspicion of child neglect but were released under investigation.
They also said the death is not being treated as suspicious with the case now handed to the coroner.
At the time of the incident Miss Litchfield's father Peter said it was a "freak accident."
He said: "Everyone's making a big thing of it. They've done nothing wrong and the way it's being portrayed at the minute they're horrible parents. They bloody aren't. They've been fantastic. If they were horrible parents they wouldn't be sitting with that young lad now."
Neighbours said they had warned about the risks of dogs and having them near a newborn.
A neighbour who lived opposite the flat said: "He (Dan) was showing people his newborn baby because he was so proud of it. When he sowed me the pictures I said 'be careful because those dogs might not be used to the baby.'"
