The Wright Stuff: Caller has strong view on Madeleine McCann
There is still work to be done
Scotland Yard has made a formal request to the Home Office for extra funds as the Operation Grange investigation could face being wound up.
Madeleine’s parents, former GP Kate and cardiologist Gerry, both 50, have vowed to never give up hope of finding their daughter who disappeared during a family holiday in Portugal in May 2007.
The couple, from Rothley, Leics, insisted last night: “There is still work to be done.”
The development comes as Mr McCann is to speak publicly of his torment for the first time.
He is to give a candid account of his suffering to raise awareness about mental health issues in a one-off BBC Radio 4 show on Saturday.
Yesterday the Home Office confirmed it was “considering” a request from the Metropolitan Police to extend funding until March 2019.
The renewed bid will need to be “carefully considered” on orders of Home Secretary Sajid Javid.
In April, officers were given £154,000 to extend the investigation another six months.
