London shooting: Boy shot in Wandsworth and gunman at large as bloodbath spirals
A SHOOTING in Wandsworth, London has seen a teenage boy left in a critical condition.
Police were called to York Road, Wandsworth at 12.45am, where a 16-year-old was found with gunshot wounds.
"Officers attended with specialist firearms colleagues," a Met Police spokesman said.
"He has been taken to a south London hospital."
A police cordon is in place with York Road shut in both directions between Wandsworth Bridge and Wynter Street.
Twitter user Sanober Ahmed said: "Gunshots heard outside my window and apparently a man’s been shot.
"Road’s been cordoned off and police sniffer dogs searching the roads.”
There have been no arrests but the police have appealed for any witnesses with information to get in contact.
Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting CAD 354/2 SEPT.
Nine people have died from gun crime in the capital so far in 2018 as the crime rate across London has soared.
Gun crime has been on the rise ever since 2014.
Between 2016 and 2017, the number of gun crime incidents rose from 2,193 to 2,542, according to the Met Police.
Despite the surge, Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Cressida Dick, said in July the crime rate was “stabilising”.
The police chief has vowed to fight a normalisation of violent crime in London.
She said: “Every death remains a tragedy for us all, and we have no intention of allowing the extraordinary levels of violence we saw earlier this year to become the new normality.”
