Headmistress faces jail over indecent child photographs
THE headmistress of a primary school was facing jail last night after making indecent photographs of a child.
Rhian DeSouza, 43, has been suspended from her post at the school in Clydach, near Swansea, South Wales.
The school’s governors have written to parents to assure them the case does not involve any current or former pupils, or any school where DeSouza has worked.
The disgraced head admitted two charges of making indecent photographs of a child in May and June this year at Llanelli magistrates court.
The case was adjourned until September 14 when DeSouza will be sentenced at Swansea Crown Court.
She would have been well aware that the children pictured in online indecent images are victims of crime and suffer horrific abuse for them to be made
DeSouza, of Llanelli, has been head of the Welsh-speaking Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Gellionnen, for more than five years.
An NSPCC Wales spokesman said: “As a head teacher at a primary school DeSouza held a position of great responsibility over children.
“She would have been well aware that the children pictured in online indecent images are victims of crime and suffer horrific abuse for them to be made.”
DeSouza, who appeared before magistrates earlier this month, has been released on bail.
