GCSE results day: When do GCSE results come out? How to find out grades
GCSE results day is approaching and students across the nation will finally find out if they will be celebrating or commiserating. Read below to find out when the GCSE results come out and how to find out your grades.
New GCSE grading system uses numbers in place of letters
GSCE results will come out on Thursday, August 23.
Anxious teenagers will be able to collect their results from their college or school tomorrow morning.
Most schools will release the grades at 6am, but some will have different times so check with your school to find the exact timing.
If you, for some reason, are unable to collect the results in person, you can require them via post, and some lucky students will also be able to see theirs online.
How to find out your grades
This year’s students are the first to be graded by a numerical system rather than by the traditional A*-G grades.
The numerical format looks like this:
9, 8 or 7 is equivalent to an A* or A grade
6, 5 or 4 is equivalent to a B or C grade
3, 2 or 1 is equivalent to a D, E or F grade
Fewer top grades will be given this year than previous years.
With the new GCSE grading system, the grade 9 (A* equivalent) will only recognise the very best performances.
The new system has had students facing tougher content, with more demanding and more stretching exams.
The change was made to help the UK compete academically on an international level.
Each exam board has its own set of grade boundaries which change every year.
