Scots actress Sharon Rooney in remake of Disney classic
A RISING Scots star has won a jumbo role in a live-action version of Disney’s flying elephant classic Dumbo.
Sharon Rooney will play circus performer Miss Atlantis in the film, directed by Edward Scissorhands filmmaker Tim Burton.
Glasgow-born Sharon, 29, best known for TV comedies My Mad Fat Diary and Two Doors Down, said she is still pinching herself.
“It’s a dream come true,” she said. “It just doesn’t feel real. I think Tim Burton’s work is incredible.”
She has joined a stellar cast including Danny DeVito, Colin Farrell, Eva Green and Michael Keaton.

Winning the part meant a tough audition process against more than 100 rivals.
Sharon said: “When I got the chance to meet Tim, I thought, ‘Yep, I’ve peaked. I’ve met Tim Burton. That’s it. I’ll retire’.
“He was everything I thought he would be, a wonderful, man.
“It’s a crazy world. I just think, ‘How did this little Glasgow kid end up here?’.”
The remake is due out here in March.
