'They must be returned' Liam Neeson accuses Britain of stealing the Elgin Marbles
ACTOR Liam Neeson has became the latest star to air his opinion on the Elgin Marbles debate.
Liam Neeson has accused Britain of 'stealing' the Elgin Marbles
The 62-year-old accused Britain of stealing the Classical marble sculptures from Greece.
Speaking to Greek TV, Liam said that there was no reason why the Parthenon sculptures should stay at the British Museum.
He said: "The British must return them, full stop."
The Taken star added: "Give them back from where they were stolen. They must be returned."
The actor said Britain must return the artefact
The marbles were brought to the UK by Lord Elgin in 1816
Liam isn't the only high profile star to air his views on the Elgin Marbles debate.
Last year, George Clooney – whose human rights lawyer wife Amal Alamuddin advised the Greek government on the issue – said it would be "very nice" if Britain returned the artefacts.
Later he added: "I did a little research just to make sure I wasn’t completely out of my mind. Even in England the polling is in favour of returning the marbles from the Pantheon [sic], the Pantheon Marbles."

George's wife Amal also spoke of the "injustice" that the marbles had not yet been returned to Greece after they were acquired by Lord Elgin in 1816, when Athens was under the control of the Ottoman Empire.
At a press conference in October, the 37-year-old said that the Greek government "has just cause" to call for the repatriation of the artefacts, and it was "time for the British Museum to recognise that".
She added: "The injustice has persisted for too long."
