FIRST LOOK: Peter Capaldi is a 'Rebel Time Lord' in official Doctor Who outfit
THE FIRST official picture of Peter Capaldi in his Doctor Who outfit has been released, with the actor describing his look as "100 per cent Rebel Time Lord."
The 12th Doctor will take on his role in a dark blue Crombie coat, dark blue trousers and a pair of chunky Dr Martens - a stark contrast from Matt Smith's well put together tweed jacket and bow tie.
Created by designer Howard Burden, Capaldi said of the look: "He's woven the future from the cloth of the past.
"Simple, stark and back to basics. No frills, no scarf, no messing, just 100 per cent Rebel Time Lord."
Writer and executive producer Steven Moffat added: "New Doctor, new era, and of course new clothes.
"Monsters of the universe, the vacation is over - Capaldi is suited and booted and coming to get you!"
In the snap, Capaldi looks every inch the confident Doctor as he stares intently into the camera lens ahead of his first appearance on screen later this year.
The Doctor Who cast and crew are about to begin their fourth week of filming in Cardiff and have already been spotted shooting an outdoor scene with Capaldi on horseback in a Victorian nightshirt.
Doctor Who co-star Jenna Coleman said the star is "going to be wonderful" in his new role, adding that there are "exciting times ahead" for the BBC sci-fi drama.
"[Peter is] great - of course, we all know he's going to be wonderful," said the actress, who plays companion Clara.
"It's been great to get up on our feet and get started - we just seem to have taken off like a rocket."
