Sex and The City creator candid about Carrie Bradshaw
AFTER Sarah Jessica Parker described the new TV prequel of Sex And The City, The Carrie Diaries, as “odd”, SATC creator Candace Bushnell has said the franchise needed updating.
The original TV series, starring Sarah Jessica as Carrie Bradshaw, won several Golden Globes and Emmy awards and was later made into two films – the second of which fell flat.
The Carrie Diaries sees the heroine as a 16-year-old.
And Candace, 54, argues that Carrie’s “Mr Big” love interest story line had run its course so it was time for a fresh start.
Candace says: “Sarah Jessica is 47. I think, with the second movie Carrie Bradshaw couldn’t be an ingénue any more. But I think they were stuck doing what the audience wanted.
“Realistically, a middle-aged woman who was married without children would be much more focused on her career and less focused on this Mr Big character. I think it was coming to the end of what they could do with the character.”
