King Charles hit back with a hilarious eight-word reply when he was asked for cancer advice during his second day of engagements in Northern Ireland alongside Queen Camilla. Earlier today, the King visited the Cancer Research Centre at Ulster University in Coleraine where he learned about ground breaking research its scientists are conducting into cancer therapies.

Whilst he was there, Charles shared some advice with fellow cancer patients, telling them: "What's that Winston Churchill saying? Keep buggering on." The iconic phrase was used by the former Prime Minister as a rallying cry and a way to encourage resilience during WW2. Churchill reportedly used the phrase at the start of each day and at the end of telephone conversations.

Whilst touring the university’s Cancer Research Centre, the King asked people who are living with cancer whether they were managing to "survive the side effects alright?"

"You just have to push on, don't you," he said, sympathetically.

Charles was told about new stimulus-responsive therapeutic technology that is being used to target tumours and was shown three stages of the current research, from the manufacture of microbubbles to their activation.

During the visit he also spoke to three patients who are currently living with cancer before unveiling a plaque marking his visit.

Both the King and the Princess Kate were treated for cancer last year. Kate is now in remission and Charles is having ongoing treatment. Charles' cancer was discovered during an unrelated procedure for an enlarged prostate. The Palace has not revealed what kind of cancer the King has, or what treatment he has been receiving.

Charles and Camilla started their day in the north-west of the region in the town of Limavady where they were welcomed by members of the local community in Market Street.

Young and old waved Union flags and cheered as the royal couple arrived. Charles and Camilla stopped to say a special hello to English Cocker Spaniel Lily, whose owner Nadine Connor dressed her in a knitted crown for the occasion.

The King and Queen began their three-day visit to the region on Wednesday and received a warm welcome from locals in Belfast as they toured Commercial Court and sampled some traditional whiskey in The Friend at Hand bar.
