Carole Middleton's gingham jacket is so elegant – get the look from M&S and more for less

Carole Middleton always manages to look elegant, opting for flattering, classic styles for her public outings. She often wears high street pieces, including the monochrome jacket she chose for a recent event
Carole, who recently turned 70, wore a black and white gingham jacket from L.K. Bennett to Turn The Tables 2025, an evening held at London's Corinthia Hotel in aid of Cancer Research UK.
It's collarless with tailored fit that nips in the waist, with fringed hems and pretty pearl-like buttons. It's a versatile piece – Carole paired it with black trousers and a shirt this time, giving the impression of a collar. Whereas she was snapped wearing the same jacket in 2022 with a high-necked white top underneath. We think it would look great with jeans, too.
While Carole’s exact jacket is no longer available, we've found some alternatives from high street retailers, including another option from L.K. Bennett, as well as more affordable pieces from M&S, New Look and H&M.
For a similar aesthetic from L.K. Bennett, you could try the brand's Charlie jacket. It's a classic collarless tweed coat in similar colours, with fringe trims. Instead of pearl buttons, you get metal ones on four pockets, but we think it's equally refined.
This comes in six other colours including a spring-like pink and a pistacchio green option, both of which come in petite sizes.
H&M's bouclé jacket is currently on sale – and it's great value for a smart-looking jacket. It has metal buttons rather than pearl but it does have the two pockets. Be quick as this one is selling fast.
This checked jacket by M&S is another purse-friendly alternative. It's a dark navy and white rather than black but with its fringed cuffs and front pockets, you get a similar effect.
If you like your jacket slightly shorter, this from New Look is another excellent option. It's black and white but you get some metallic threads in the mix. We think the gold buttons, which also feature on the pockets, are just as chic as the pearl-like ones on Carole's jacket. This one also comes in plain navy or black.
