King Charles may have subtly made a dig at Meghan Markle's marketing tactics for her new brand American Riviera Orchard, after the Duchess of Sussex soft launched her strawberry jam earlier this year.

Meghan sent out 50 personalised jars of the jam to her close friends and social media influencers, with several pictures later posted online showing the jam sitting in a basket surrounded by lemons.

This fruity theme can also be found in a picture of the Palace of Holyroodhouse's Dry Gin, on sale at the Royal Collection Shop for £45.

A photo advertising the spirit shows it also placed beside two lemons, a classic accompaniment to a glass of gin and tonic, however some royal fans online believe it could be poking fun at Meghan's gift.

One royal admirer noted the similarities and wrote on social media: "We all know lemons go with gin and yet… I sense some rather delicious trolling."

Another commented: "Oh this absolutely is trolling! Well done Highgrove. Well done!" A third added: "Royally trolling," accompanied by a laughing emoji.

One social media user posted: "I always think limes with gin but so glad they used lemons." Another agreed, commenting: "The lemons are a nice touch. Love it!"

Another account commented that the Royal Collection gin can "actually be bought", with questions being raised over when Meghan will make her products available to the public.

Despite announcing the launch of her brand in the spring and launching American Riviera Orchard's Instagram account, there is no word yet on when people will be able to buy Meghan's jam, or any of her other products.

The Duchess of Sussex is rumoured to be selling a wide variety of products for the home, including reed diffusers, linen, beach towels, wine, and dog biscuits.

An inside source told Page Six: "She’s been working on this for over a year and it’s all the things that are close to her heart — all the things she’s passionate about."

PR expert Lynn Carratt from Press Box PR told Daily Express US how she would advise the Duchess to proceed with the brand if she were her client.

She said: "I think she needs to get everything ready, they need to open the Instagram accounts, they need to make solid announcements, and go on the PR charm offensive.

"Just go for it, basically, launch it, and then back it up with the TV show."

The TV show in this instance is a new Netflix cooking series supposedly being filmed by Meghan right now, although a release date has not been given.
