Prince Harry reveals ‘biggest mistake’ of his life - nothing to do with Royal Family

Prince Harry has revealed what one of his “biggest mistakes” was as he reflected on sparking furious backlash. His memoir, Spare, released in 2023, offers a wealth of insight into the prince's life. He detailed how he really felt about some of his most well-known moments.
Prince Harry says his 2005 Nazi uniform costume was a “poor choice” and one that had a lasting impact on him. Harry has put some of the blame for his infamous decision to wear a Nazi uniform to a party on his brother Prince William and his sister-in-law Kate, claiming in the memoir that they “howled with laughter” when they saw his bad taste outfit choice in 2005.
However, the Duke of Sussex was criticised when The Sun newspaper published a front page picture of him wearing the German Afrika Korps uniform outfit featuring a swastika on his left arm.
Shortly after the picture was published in the media, Harry issued an apology, saying: “I am very sorry if I have caused any offence or embarrassment to anyone. It was a poor choice of costume, and I apologise.”
Harry expressed regret over the Nazi uniform gaffe in the third episode of the Netflix series Harry & Meghan.
Speaking on the series, he said it was “probably one of the biggest mistakes of my life”.
“I felt so ashamed afterwards,” Harry continued.
He said: “All I wanted to do was make it right. I sat down and spoke to the Chief Rabbi in London, which had a profound impact on me.
“I went to Berlin and spoke to a Holocaust survivor. I could have just ignored it and gone on and made the same mistakes over and over again in my life. But I learned from that.”
In January 2005, Prince Harry was invited to a birthday party of Prince William's friend, reports Town and Country.
The theme was “Natives and colonials,” and Prince Harry wore the “desert uniform of General Erwin Rommel's Afrika Korps,” which is better known as a Nazi costume.
According to reporting at the time, Prince William wore a leopard outfit with black leggings, and their friend Guy dressed as Queen Elizabeth.
