The Repubilcan firebrand beat the odd by leading an inflammatory campaign and denouncing Hillary Clinton as a “crooked” member of the political establishment.
His radical policies, such as a vast Mexico border wall and the mass deportation of illegal immigrants, have sparked controversy around the world.
After his shock victory, Mr Trump declared: “I will be President for all Americans and this is so important for me.”
He added: "Every single American will have the opportunity to realise his or her full potential. The forgotten men and women of our country will be forgotten no longer.”

His name is emblazoned on luxury hotels, golf course and other real estate developments around the world.

Many Americans first got to know Trump as the brash tycoon who hosted the popular reality TV gameshow the Apprentice.
Like Alan Sugar in the British version of the show, Trump dismissed the poorest contestants by saying “you’re fired” in tense boardroom scenes.
Trump used to own beauty pageants and also runs a modelling agency, restaurants, ice skating rinks and entertainment businesses.
