Andy Burnham needs to grow a pair - tell us killers WILL be kept locked up
OPINION - ESTHER MCVEY: No ifs, no buts, letting these people out of jail early will have tragic consequences
Andy Burnham is back from his holiday and trying to decide which killers he will keep locked up in prison and which he will let out. There are currently 950 prisoners serving sentences for manslaughter in England and Wales. Government officials have informed Burnham that the only legally sound way to keep PC Harper's killers behind bars is to block the early release of the entire cohort of manslaughter convicts, but they are also telling him prisons are overcrowded, and he can’t keep all 950 inside.
The Prime Minister should grow a pair – tell his civil servants they are all staying behind bars and draw up alternative plans like getting the Bibby Stockholm barge up and running or renting prison spaces from other countries and send them there instead. Letting these criminals out of prison makes us all less safe and will inevitably lead to tragic consequences.
This would be economic suicide
Apparently Andy Burnham is considering a post-Brexit plan to rejoin the EU Single Market and extend our nuclear deterrent across the continent. Aside from being an absolute betrayal of his Brexit voting constituents in Makerfield, rejoining the Single Market would be economic suicide.
We have tariff free, quota free access to the EU market without having to pay a huge membership and without all of our companies – including the 92% who do not trade with the EU – being forced to abide by EU regulations which has made Europe the continent with the slowest economic growth in the world. ThisNobody in their right mind would even contemplate this deal.
Trump knows EXACTLY what he is doing
Donald Trump let TikTok sparks fly at the weekend when he used Democrat-supporting Taylor Swift’s music for a firework video he posted. Swift’s legal team took no time blocking use of the music. Trump knew what he was doing – he was causing a spat to increase his online followers, and Taylor Swift played right into his hands.

The latest to be afflicted by it is Net Zero Secretary Miatta Fahnbulleh who sends her three children to private schools, but supports Labour’s VAT policy which is designed to stop thousands of other parents being able to do the same for their children and has already forced 30,000 children to leave private schools.
But Miatta (privately educated herself) doesn’t care. Her kids are still lucky enough to be attending private school. To be a socialist it seems you have to believe private education is terrible for others, but absolutely fine for your own family.

In 1989 Margaret Thatcher’s government came up with a biological weapon to destroy Peru’s cocaine supply. The top-secret plan was to “bomb” thousands of moths bred at Porton Down, the chemical defence facility, on their coca crops, but a lack of political and financial support from Lima, the Peruvian capital, meant the proposals never came to fruition.
The current total annual value of Peruvian cocaine ranges from $1.2billion at the source to upwards of $25billion to $35billion when sold on global retail markets, and the number of annual global deaths from cocaine is about 30,000. What a shame this ingenious plan was never implemented. I wonder if it can be resurrected now.
