Britain sends 100 extra troops to Iraq to fight Islamic State
EXTRA British troops are to be sent to Iraq to help in the fight against Islamic State, Prime Minister David Cameron announced yesterday.
The UK is sending troops to help fight ISIS
The Army will send 125 soldiers to train Iraqi forces and not be directly involved in combat, Downing Street officials said. The move – taking the total deployment to 275 – is likely to provoke concerns that Britain is being dragged into a bloody new conflict in Iraq.
Mr Cameron made the announcement following talks with US President Barack Obama and other world leaders at the G7 summit in Germany.
He said: “The biggest challenge we face in terms of the effect on Britain is fighting extremist Islamist terror… It’s the right thing for Britain to do.”
A Government source said: “These troops will be behind the wire at all times.”
