Twitter goes wild for man's best friend: #DogsAtPollingStations trending online
THEY might not be on the ballot papers, but dogs could be the surprise winner at this election after photos of the canines began trending on Twitter.
Pictures of dogs dominated Twitter timelines for a period during Election day today
Hundreds of pictures of dogs tied up outside voting stations emerged on the website today as Britons cast their ballots in the closest election in decades.
Dogs are allowed to accompany their owners to polling stations as long as they don't disturb other voters.

Twitter users have spent the day debating the pros and cons of taking their dogs with them to vote, with a slew of pictures posted online showing their pets tied to walls outside churches and community halls.
Even Surrey Police got involved, tweeting: "This is Police Dog Eric. Truth be told he's not quite sure what all the fuss is about…"
Some joked they had voted for their dog, while others attempted to promote their feline companions with #CatsNotAtPollingStations
