Angela Rayner accuses Tories of 'trying to make it up as they go along' over Truss ousting
ANGELA Rayner has accused the Conservative Party of "trying to make it up as they go" after Tory grandees announced a rule change to fast-track the replacement of Liz Truss as Prime Minister.
Angela Rayner says Conservatives 'haven't got a clue'
Labour's Deputy leader has lashed out at the Conservative MPs over the party's decision to rush through a week-long leadership contest to find Liz Truss' replacement in Number 10. Angela Rayner argued that the Tory Party was "making it up as they go along" in a desperate bid to avoid electoral wipeout in the event of a snap election.
Ms Rayner told Sky News: "I don't even think they trust their membership at the moment.
"And it seems to me they are going around trying to make it up as they go along.
"To say nothing to see here and drag any old MP that they are willing to put in front of the people and say this is who we have got for you.
"Running scared of a general election," She added.
Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has called for a general election "now" after Liz Truss' resignation.
He said: "After 12 years of Tory failure, the British people deserve so much better than this revolving door of chaos.
"There is an alternative and that's a stable Labour government and the public are entitled to have their say and that's why there should be a general election.
"If that does happen, Labour is primed," he added.

He continued: "The Conservative Party has shown it no longer has a mandate to govern.
"The British public deserve a proper say on the country's future. They must have the chance to compare the Tories' chaos with Labour's plans to sort out their mess, grow the economy for working people and rebuild the country for a fairer, greener future.
"We must have a chance at a fresh start. We need a general election - now."
Ms Truss announced her resignation outside Downing Street on Thursday telling the nation she had told the King she was quitting as the Prime Minister.

The reason Ms Truss gave was that she was unable to "deliver the mandate" that Tory members gave her only six weeks ago.
A Conservative leadership contest will decide Ms Truss' successor with the contest "to be completed within the next week".
"This will ensure that we remain on a path to deliver our fiscal plan and maintain our country's economic stability and national security," said Ms Truss.
"I will remain as Prime Minister until a successor has been chosen."
