Graphic photographs of Victor the Staffie-type terrier's gaping wounds were released today after his owner was jailed for 24 weeks.
Christopher Griffiths, 35, was also banned from keeping dogs and given a 12-month probation order when he appeared at Wrexham Magistrates' Court for sentencing.
Griffiths, of Bridge Street, Southsea, Wrexham, had been found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering and carrying out a prohibited procedure at a trial in May. He denied the charges.

Victor the Staffle-type terrier was taken to the vets where his ears were stitched up
As Victor makes a recovery from his ordeal, the RSPCA inspector who investigated the case described the scene that confronted her when she saw the dog.
Inspector Kia Thomas said: "When I first saw Victor I was just so shocked as his ears were gaping open wounds. I had never seen anything quite like it before.
"It must have been so painful for him. It was just so heartbreaking. It is awful to imagine what poor Victor went through. It was totally unnecessary."

Posing for a picture with Victor after his recovery, Inspector Thomas added: "Since Victor has been in our care he has been doing so well. He is an adorable dog with a lot of love to give.
"He loves nothing more than to be in your company and loves a cwtch (cuddle) on the sofa. He is now up for rehoming and we hope he will find his forever home soon."
The RSPCA says it had been contacted in September last year after Victor had been found with his ears chopped off.
He was taken immediately to a vets where his ears were stitched up.
