Lingerie brand Curvy Kate creates Victoria’s Secret spoof to promote 'the perfect body'
A NEW campaign has been released by lingerie brand Curvy Kate to encourage female body confidence.
Last October a Victoria's Secret advert dubbed the ‘perfect’ woman as tall and skinny, sparking a fiery online debate.
Concerned the advert was sending out a dangerous message, a petition was started by three students - Gabriella Kountourides, Laura Ferris and Frances Black.
The petition was signed by more than 27,000 people - calling for a change in the way women’s bodies are represented by advertising and the media.
Now lingerie brand Curvy Kate have recreated the image using ‘real women’.
The photograph, which depicts women of varying body shapes, is captioned ‘The perfect body – every body is beautiful’.
The image has been released as part of the brand’s Star a Bra initiative – an annual competition which searches for the next Curvy Kate model.
A spokesperson for the brand has said: "With the public outcry for the use of more realistic images in the media, Star in a Bra champions the use of relatable role models and promotes a positive approach to body image.”
"We want to show you exactly how our lingerie will look and fit on a variety of body shapes, cementing that there isn't one type of 'perfect body".
