One-pieces are back! The top five iconic swimsuit moments
ONE-PIECE swimsuits are making waves this season. Sales in the holiday wear have rocketed as more women revert back to glamorous beach look. Here are our favourite looks...
Swimsuits are undergoing a bit of a renaissance.
It's trendy once again to cover up on the beach and wear something more than two triangular scraps of material.
George at Asda has reported a rise in sales of the formerly uncool beachwear, with more than 440,000 one-pieces being sold this month.
Buying director Helen Connolly commented: “This season the swimsuit is unstoppable. George is definitely on the crest of a wave in swimwear trends and we’re really seeing a poolside revolution.
"Demand is huge for one-piece styles, which is why George has invested design expertise in a huge collection of swimsuits for 2014.
"They’re practical, versatile, flattering and on-trend. What’s not to love?”
With this in mind, we've picked out top five swimsuit moments.
BO DEREK
This photograph of Bo Derek jogging down a beach is so iconic that most people recognise the image even if they haven't seen the romatic comedy film, 10.
Playing Jenny Hanley, Bo runs down an idyllic Mexican beach, flaunting her enviable figure in a chic gold swimsuit.
A fashion commentator once said: "Bo is the best thing to happen to sales of the one-piece."
PAMELA ANDERSON
Surprisingly, Pammie wasn't even in the original cast of hit Nineties show, Baywatch.
But who can imagine the series, dubbed "Babewatch" thanks to the plethora of beautiful women, without her?
The sky-high-cut red suit helped turn the former Playboy centrefold into a global star.
KIM CATTRALL
While Sex And The City may not have been such a success on the big screen as it was the small, one thing that didn't disappoint was the fashion.
Stylist Patricia Field reportedly used more than 300 outfits on the four lead characters.
But our favourite is Samantha Jones' bejeweled white swimsuit, which she wears in Mexico.
FARRAH FAWCETT
This image of Charlie's Angel star Farrah Fawcett, wearing a bathing costume, became one of the most iconic of the Seventies.
The picture was taken at Farrah's house in 1976 as part of a bikini shoot.
The actress wasn't happy in a skimpy two-piece as she felt "exposed" so she decided to wear this red one-piece she found in her wardrobe instead.
KEIRA KNIGHTLEY
Keira stole the show in 2007 film Atonement in this vintage one-piece.
THAT green dress aside, the Oscar winning movie featured a series of stunning style moments.
The conservative white bathing suit and matching swim cap made Keira an overnight fashion sensation.
