Mature women are spoilt for choice when it comes to looking and feeling their best, with countless ways to turn back the clock.

While some people invest in expensive skincare and painful beauty treatments to look younger, style gurus believe that a strategically chosen outfit can work wonders.

There's something to be said for feeling, as well as looking great when dressing to flatter your body type, and it's easily done by making just a few tweaks to clothes already sat in your wardrobe.

Deirdre, founder of the YouTube channel 50 and Fabulous with My Friend Deirdre, previously told Express.co.uk about the two accessories that can take any outfit from drab to fab.

She said: "A really easy way to make sure you're not on the road to Frumpsville is to belt your outfit."

Deirdre went on to say: "It makes a huge difference to your outfit by giving waist definition, which is youthful.

"One key mistake that we can make, and which is a serious frump factor, is to wear our clothes too baggy when we wear shapeless pieces."

However, this isn't to say that women over 50 need to ditch comfy, baggy clothing altogether - they just need to know how to accessorise it.

Deirdre suggested that a loose-fitting piece can be "instantly uplifted to take away the frump factor" with a simple belt.

She added: "Belts can transform a shift dress, a tunic and particularly a shirt dress."

Another expert style tip shared by Diedre was to next tip was to invest in some stylish headwear but warned that certain styles can be ageing.

She explained: "Hats are wonderfully glamorous but also a minefield when it comes to knowing which shape to wear."

The stylist recommended asymmetrical shapes for formal events but suggests avoiding a matching hat, bag and shoes.

As for everyday looks, she advised women to take inspiration from menswear, noting: "For more everyday looks, my style tip would be to get inspiration from menswear, like a fedora hat, which is endlessly flattering on a woman. You just can't go wrong with a stylish fedora."

She added: "They frame your face but don't overwhelm your features. Choose a colour which suits your skin tone and complements your outfit."
