Google Maps update should ensure you NEVER get lost again
UPGRADE to Google Maps helps point you in the right direction when using the Android app.
Google's Maps update means you should never get lost again
Google has upgraded its Google Maps app to make getting around even easier than before.
Users loading up the app on Android devices will now see that the directional arrow that previously showed which way they were facing has been replaced.
Instead, a blue beam will now point out from the dot indicating your location, giving a more accurate definition of which way you're facing, helping make sure you stay on the right path.
The new Google Maps beam will show you which way you're facing
Google says that the beam can also show how strong your phone's signal is, and if there are any issues with the compass in your device.
The beam will get narrower, indicating greater accuracy, depending on the strength of the signal, which Google says can be affected by issues such as tall buildings, or even a metal beam nearby.
However you can easily fix any issues by recalibrating your phone by holding it in your hand and drawing the figure eight in the air.
The launch comes shortly after Google revealed several new updates for its Maps app.
The app will now display local speed limits as part of its GPS journey guide, with a road sign appearing in the bottom corner of Android devices using the Google Maps navigation mode, as well as Google’s own car-centric Android Auto system.
The display changes depending on the current route of your journey, refreshing to reflect urban roads, country byways, and highways.
Google Maps Pokémon challenge
Earlier this year, Google Maps received an upgrade which will let it provide even more information on businesses and locations in foreign surroundings, even if you can’t speak the local language.
The update, which has already launched in Japan and will soon come to other countries, translates information about local businesses and facilities around you, from doctor’s offices to supermarkets.
The categories, which also include classifications such as restaurants and pharmacies, will then appear on your Google Maps view without needing to click on a business to open its listing.
