WhatsApp: New feature goes live as service hits one billion mark
WHATSAPP new voice call feature appears to have gone live.
WhatsApp's new voice calling feature is now live for selected users
There has been no official announcement from WhatsApp, who have already invited a small number of users to test the feature last month.
Users are reporting, however, that the voice call feature is now active on the Android platform.
Voice calling reportedly only works on Android devices with the latest update of WhatsApp.
And according to tech website Android Police, even if you've done this, you still need to be invited by a friend to activate the service.
However, once up and running you'll be able to call your friends and family over the internet for free.
It follows the news that WhatsApp has hit one billion downloads on Android.
Whatsapp scam sinks its claws in
CEO and co-founder, Jan Koum revealed the news on his Twitter, writing: "Now serving 600,000,000 monthly active users.
"Yes, active and registered are very different types of numbers.
"WhatsApp crossed 1B Android downloads. btw our android team is four people + Brian. very small team, very big impact (sic)."
WhatsApp becomes the second non-Google app to achieve the milestone, the first being Facebook.
