Samsung remains the go-to brand for millions of Android fans, but the South Korean tech giant is about to get more competition. Sony has teased that “exciting” news is coming very soon, and it will be all about its Xperia range. It’s been some time since Sony last gave its flagship Xperia 1 devices a major redesign, but that may be about to change when the company unveils a new product tomorrow, May 13.

In a post on its website, Sony confirmed: “Xperia – Stay tuned for the exciting news.”

The company added: “Join us for some exciting news… new product announcement, May 13th, 2026.”

While Sony has not officially revealed what’s coming, rumours strongly suggest the launch of a new Xperia 1 VIII (that's Xperia 1 8 just in case you were wondering). It could feature a noticeably updated design, including bold new colour options and a revamped rear camera layout. Images circulating online suggest the phone may arrive in four colours: Black, Silver, Red and Gold.

The camera module also appears to have been redesigned to resemble the layout seen on recent iPhones. Previous Xperia devices typically stacked their lenses vertically, but the new model could place two lenses side by side, with a third positioned beneath them.

Sony has fuelled speculation further by sharing a teaser image featuring three circles arranged in that same pattern.

Other expected features include a 6.5-inch high-resolution display, improved speakers, a powerful Qualcomm processor and enhanced battery life.

Sony may also continue offering a headphone jack — a feature that has largely disappeared from rival smartphones but remains a staple of Xperia devices.

Fortunately, fans won’t have to wait long to find out exactly what Sony has planned, with the full reveal set for tomorrow.
