Shark's upright vacuum cleaner rivals Dyson and shoppers say it's 'perfect'

If you want your vacuum cleaner to pack a punch, you're likely going to want a corded model - and Amazon currently has a stellar deal on one of Shark's top-rated devices.

If you're looking to clean your home with as much power as you can, a corded vacuum cleaner is the way to go. But getting the right corded vacuum can require some research, particularly if you don't want to splash way too much cash on it.

Thankfully, every so often a deal comes along that sorts you right out - like this discount on Amazon. It sees the Shark Stratos XL vacuum cleaner reduced by a chunky 25%, taking a full £100 off its regular price to instead cost £299. That's a great price for a seriously forceful cleaner.

With a 2.6-litre tank, you can suck up huge amounts of dirt with this before you need to empty it, and there's no filter to replace either, making it more efficient in the long term. You get multiple attachments in the box for vacuuming corners and edges, as well as furniture.

This is also a pet-friendly model, meaning its brushes are designed not to get tangled with pet hair and fur (which is helpful with human hair, too). Best of all, it also has a lift-away section that lets you leave behind the main floor head to carry around the core of the vacuum handheld for easier access to high spots or other areas.

So far, nearly 300 people have left reviews behind on the vacuum's page, and they're almost all very praising, with an average score of 4.5 stars. Among these are some really interesting verdicts, like one from a customer who said: "After using Dyson for a number of years having multiple models and all suffering from poor build quality and loss of suction over time, made the switch to Shark and it’s like night and day - the build quality is a lot better, it’s sleek and stylish but most importantly it cleans so much better."

Another happy user wrote: "We had just got a new cat who sheds black and white hair in amazing quantities. Twice over the rug and all cat hair had gone, the rug looked as good as new! The hose detaches easily and the attachments work well on stair carpets. When using it on hard floors like wood and tile it is remarkably quiet." A third agreed: "It manoeuvres very well. The cord is a perfect length. It has impressive suction power and is not too noisy at all. It’s really good value for money and will recommend this."

Others have been more critical, like one who called the vacuum "fairly heavy" and another who agreed: "The major downside is just how heavy this hoover is to push around on medium-pile carpet and even on wood floors."

There are many other upright vacuums on the market, of course, including a more affordable option from Shark in the form of the Shark Classic Upright Vacuum for £129, with less power to boast of. If you do prefer to look into a Dyson, there's the Dyson Ball Animal for £229.99 with that iconic ball design.
