There’s something new launching from Sky this month and it’s good news if you’ve missed the lack of football action over the past few weeks. It was confirmed earlier this year the "huge" update, called Sky Sports+ will arrive at some point in August with it featuring a swathe of bonus content including four times as many matches from the English Football League (EFL).

In fact, all of the 72 teams involved in the EFL will be included over 20 times a season.

An exact launch remains under wraps but with the 2024/2025 football season about to kick off Sky Sports+ should begin broadcasting very soon. Some reports suggest it will start broadcasting on August 6.

If football isn’t your thing don’t panic as it’s been confirmed that Sky Sports+ will also feature tennis Tours and men’s Super League. In total, there will 50 percent more things to watch than before and fans won't have to pay a penny extra to watch.

To make sure you never miss any of the action, Sky is also boasting that it has the capability to stream 100 live events at the same time. That should make sure even the busiest days of sport get fully broadcast across the UK.

Other features available on Sky Sports+ include live pause and rewind on all concurrent streams plus there will be a ‘Recap’ feature for EFL games. Recap, which shows key moments in a game, has been available for Premier League and Championship games for a while and it's nice to now see it arriving for lower league matches.

Sky has confirmed that Sports+ will be available across all of its devices including Sky Q boxes, Sky Glass TVs, Sky Stream. Those who tune in via the NOW streaming service will also see the boost as well.

Finally, the Sky's Sports app will also be upgraded to include full access to Sports+ allowing fans to watch all the action on the move.

Speaking about the update, Jonathan Licht, Managing Director at Sky Sports, said: “Exceptional sport, covered in an innovative and compelling way, has been a big part of our history. With the introduction of Sky Sports+, we are now able to offer sports fans more choice and an even better experience when watching the live action, at no extra cost.

“For the first time, we will broadcast every game live from across the EFL on the opening weekend. It’s going to be a huge moment for football fans up and down the country and is a fitting way to kick off our ground-breaking new partnership with the EFL. And this is just the beginning; Sky Sports+ unlocks the potential for us to keep evolving and finding new ways to deliver brilliant sport to our customers.”

As we mentioned earlier, you will need a full Sky Sports subscription to gain access but as long as you already pay for this the upgrade will be free.
