iPads spotted for eye-watering low price as they're slashed to £94 at major tech retailer

Buying a new bit of tech normally means your bank balance will take a major hit - but Wowcher currently has a brilliant deal on for refurbished iPads that you won't want to miss.

For a long while now, Apple has been the undisputed market leader when it comes to tablets - anyone who's used an iPad will know how sleek and powerful they are. However, they're also off-puttingly expensive for most of us, with the latest basic iPad starting from £349.

That's why the really smart money is often in shopping around for older versions that have seen their price tumble over the years, and you won't find many better deals than the discount currently on offer at Wowcher. It has a refurbished 5th-generation 9.7-inch iPad down to a stunning £94 instead of £220.

This admittedly isn't the most up-to-date model out there - it comes from 2017, but still has lots of brilliant features. These include a 1GHz Intel processor and 8GB RAM, and you have the options of choosing 32GB or 128GB for memory.

Getting any Apple device, even just some AirPods, for less than £100 feels like a real steal, but when it's an iPad the stakes are even higher - this sort of price doesn't come around very often. Back when it came out, this iPad unsurprisingly did very well with the experts, too. WIRED gave it a glowing 8/10 review, while CNET came to a score of 8.4 when it tested the tablet.

That's just the experts, too - people have been using this iPad for years, and there are loads of interesting customer reviews out there on the web to check out. An Amazon listing for a similarly refurbished model has some great reviews to spotlight, from people who've picked it up recently. One happy user said: "Good quality. Really good battery life and performance."

Another wrote: "I bought it for my daughter to access online learning sites - this is ideal - great value at like 1/4 of the price of a new one." That's a great point, highlighting how this could be an ideal option for parents. A third customer said: "I am really pleased with the iPad. Looks brand new and for the money, it’s a fantastic buy." It's great to be reassured that refurbished products can stand up to real scrutiny when they arrive.

Of course, some people have been more critical. One user said: "There were marks and dents on the back which didn't matter to me as I bought a case for it to protect it and a screen cover to protect the screen, so the back is always covered." This is a reminder there's a small chance of cosmetic damage when buying renewed devices. Finally, another wrote: "Battery life is awful," another problem that can be present in devices that have already been used for some time - but it's important to note those particularly comments were for the Amazon listing, and while they're a useful guide, they might not apply to the Wowcher deal.

You could, of course, opt to get a new device instead - and something like Samsung's Galaxy Tab A9 would fit the bill perfectly, although it's pricier at £169 (but also way newer). Another option would be the Lenovo Tab M10 3rd Gen, which starts from £180.

Neither has the allure of Apple's software and design, though, which means that the Wowcher deal on a refurbished 5th-generation 9.7-inch iPad looks all the more desirable. Be sure to jump on it while you can - these sorts of discounts don't tend to last very long.
