Cheryl struts her stuff in all black ensemble
Instagram has rocketed in popularity since being snapped up by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in 2012. But the image-led social networking site - famed for its filtered selfies - has sometimes been accused of promoting unattainable lifestyles. While sharing and following photos can be great fun, it can be good to take a break. If you are wondering how to do this without losing all your photos then do not worry.
Express.co.uk explains how to delete your Instagram account safely.
First things first, you need to download your pictures.
Open Instagram on your phone, go the profile icon on the bottom-right and then choose the menu button on the app’s top-right.
Go to ‘settings’ on the bottom, scroll down and choose ‘data download’, which you then need to request.
Bear in mind that it can take up to 48 hours to get your photos sent over so do not delete your account until you have them.
The file should come to you in an email from Instagram.
How to delete Instagram
Open Instagram while logged in and choose an option from the drop-down menu under ‘why are you deleting your account’.
Then re-enter your password. You must choose a reason why in order to be able to leave the app.
Finally tap ‘Permanently delete my account’.
Do remember that once you have deleted your account you will not be able to use the same password again and the account cannot be reactivated.
How to disable Instagram temporarily
If you just want a short break from the social media app - or just want to test the waters for a definite split - a separate option is available.
Log into the app, tap on top right and select ‘edit profile’.
Scroll down and choose ‘temporarily disable my account’, which you can find in the bottom right.
You will need to give a reason why you are taking a short respite so pick the one that suits you from the ‘Why are you disabling your account?’ options.
Re-enter your password and then tap temporarily disable account.
