Millions of homes may have been doing it wrong for decades by storing medicines, make up and perfume there too, it added.
Although many of these items have long been found in bathroom vanity units, cupboards or lying out in the open, they will suffer from the heat and humidity of the bathrooms of modern homes in particular.
Power showers, warmer central heating and better insulation all contribute to hot and damp conditions.
While it means that bathers do not face a shivering towel down after stepping out of the tub, it is not good for many items commonly stored there.
According to the domestic gurus of House Beautiful this even includes towels and other linen as well as traditional bars of soap.
Recently it emerged that a bathroom is being planned for 2020 that can even tell you how healthy you are.

Bars of soap should be ditched for liquid soap because the old-fashioned version simply sticks to surfaces and soap dishes creating more cleaning, it advised.
Medicines should be kept at room temperature and may be less effective otherwise, the same goes for makeup - whether liquid or powder - and nail polish.

Clean towels stored in bathrooms are susceptible to mildew, books to be read while having a bath will get damaged by the damp air and radios and other non-waterproof electronics could be damaged by the moisture.
Other items will suffer from oxidisation which can make perfume go off, tarnish jewellery and rust spare razor blades, said the magazine report.
