A cleaning enthusiast has revealed an easy way to keep your white fabrics gleaming and get rid of stains.

Getting white linens stain-free can seem like an impossible task, but fortunately one TikTok user has come up with a simple solution using two items you likely already have in your kitchen, with no white vinegar in sight. The homeaglow_ cleaning account revealed baking soda and lemon juice are your best defences against pesky stains and discolouration.

The hack also requires time, patience and sunlight, making it ideal as we head into the summer months.

"This is the best way to keep your white clothes white and bright," a voiceover said. "You want to start off by soaking your white pieces in boiling water and baking soda.

"Overnight is great, but 30 minutes to an hour is good enough. Next you want to go ahead and throw it in the washer as you usually would.

"Our sun is a natural bleacher so I do like to set my whites out in the sun to sunbathe. I squirt lemon on the hard stains that didn't come out in the washer and you want to keep them out there for about two to three hours.

"This method keeps all of my whites white and bright."

Fellow social media users were quick react to the post and even shared their own hacks to keep clothes white and bright. One person wrote: "I tried hot water and salt and washed my towels it works very well too."

Meanwhile another added: "Put it to pot a little of detergent boil for 15 min, stunning white." And a third chimed in: "U gained a follower."

Social media is awash with handy hints to keep our fabrics looking fresh. Recently another easy hack for getting white towels to look "like snow" was posted on the Mrs Hinch Army Cleaning Tips Facebook page.

She penned: "What's the best way to make my white towels white again? Bleach doesn't seem to work." Bleach is particularly harsh on fabric and can lead to damage or discolouration, meaning it shouldn't be used as a go-to hack. Luckily, fellow cleaning enthusiasts had the answer.

Vanish Oxi Stain remover – the crystal white edition – seemed to be people's go-to. One group member shared a photo of the product and claimed: "This Vanish is the best I have ever used," she explained how she uses it and said: "I put a scoop in drum with my detergent and my ancient white towels are like the driven snow."

While another agreed and echoed: "The Vanish powder of whites is what I always use. It brings my dingy towels up really nicely."
