Optical illusion: What colour are the squares? Mind-blowing picture baffling the internet
AN OPTICAL illusion has been baffling the internet as it is unclear what colours a selection of squares are in a picture posted on Twitter. What can you see?
An optical illusion posted on Twitter is confusing users as they try to figure out what they are looking at. People are doubting their own eyes after a colourful picture was shared online by David Novice, a computer and information science engineer. Called the confetti illusion, the picture appeared to show a number of squares on a colourful stripy background. At first glance, the shapes are yellow, orange, green and light violet.

Posting on Twitter, David Novick said: “A four-color confetti illusion with shapes that appear to be yellow, orange, green, and light violet.”
However, he soon left many scratching their heads as he explained this is not the case.
“In fact, all have exactly the same yellow-green base color (RGB 251,255,139),” he added.
David also gave Twitter users a tip and said shrinking the image would increase the effect.
People were quick to express their fascination and the post was shared and “liked” many times.
One user commented on the illusion. They wrote: “That’s clever.”
David has often shared his mind-boggling creations, most of which are the confetti illusion.
On Twitter, he often gathers a lot of attention for the works he puts up and users are confused by his pictures.
He recently went viral for posting a similar illusion featuring multi-coloured spheres which he claimed again were all the same colour.
As people flocked to the comments of the post for clarification, David gave some explanation.
He wrote: “As explained by @generuso, Munker-Wihite and similar illusions work because the acuity of vision of color is not as great as the acuity of vision of form.”
Optical illusions often draw a lot of attention as they baffle those who try to figure them out.
They often feature something which deceives the eyes or makes viewers believe there is something there that does not actually exist.
Recently, one picture confused viewers as they tried to figure out what they were looking at.
In a picture shared on Twitter, many people saw an image of a beach, but it was actually a snap of a car door.
Some people headed to Twitter to share their confusion over the snap.
