If you had told me several months ago that I was going to purchase a treadmill so that I can go on walks within the confines of my own home, I would have laughed. Now, it's hard for me to envision life without this handy device that has rapidly become one of my top buys of the year.

A couple of months ago, I stumbled upon Amazon's Sperax Walking Pad Treadmill on sale which is when I started to contemplate the convenience of having a walking pad in my own home. The gadget is once again being offered for a discounted priced, reduced from £299.99 to £229.99, giving you a lovely £70 saving.

I'm a gym member and attend classes several times a week, and I enjoy outdoor walks. However, there are times when I'm too worn out to venture outside, and with winter looming and the prospect of dark, rainy evenings becoming more frequent, the idea of having a basic treadmill at home suddenly seemed very appealing.

As a fully remote worker, I seldom leave my desk. When I was office-based, I would frequently stroll over to colleagues for a chat, head to the kitchen to make a cuppa, and almost every lunch break involved a walk around the block.

Since transitioning to working from home, the only breaks from my desk are quick toilet breaks or to fetch my lunch from downstairs. The Sperax Walking Pad Treadmill reallly motivates me to get more steps in.

The gadget offers a variety of speed settings, allowing for anything from a leisurely stroll to a full-on run. It features an LED display that accurately monitors your workout, including time, speed, distance, and calories burned.

For added safety, it includes a removable handlebar, and comes with a remote control and a holder for your phone or tablet, enabling you to enjoy your favourite shows or videos while exercising. I must confess, my primary reason for purchasing the treadmill was to shed some weight by ensuring I take a brisk walk daily and clock in those crucial steps - especially since the walking pad is conveniently located next to my desk.

However, it has provided me with more benefits than I anticipated. It allows me to take a much-needed break from my screen during lunch, and I've noticed a reduction in back, neck, and shoulder pain caused by hunching over my desk all day.

During colder weather, using the walking pad is an excellent way to warm up, saving me from having to turn on the heating. The treadmill also proves incredibly useful for weekend workouts. If I have plans, I may not have time to visit the gym, but now I can use the walking pad in the morning before getting ready and heading out.

The treadmill conveniently sits adjacent to my desk, allowing me to use it whenever I please. It operates more quietly than anticipated, ensuring no disturbance to the rest of my household.

My routine includes a brisk 20-minute walk every weekday during my lunch break, with an additional 20 minutes either before or after work, or sometimes both. A 20-minute fast walk allows me to burn approximately 85 calories and take 2,100 steps.

I am delighted with my purchase of the treadmill as it has significantly improved both my physical and mental health. It appears I'm not alone in this sentiment, given that it's an Amazon's Choice product and has received five-star ratings from over 3,400 customers.

I relish the opportunity to put on some music and enjoy a walk or jog in the privacy of my own home. My only gripe is a minor crease on the treadmill belt, likely caused during transit, which hasn't smoothed out even after a month of use. However, this hasn't impacted the functionality of the walking pad and doesn't pose a safety risk; it's merely a cosmetic issue.

The treadmill comes equipped with handy wheels for easy movement, but it is quite heavy. If you need to transport it between rooms or up staircases, you'll certainly require at least two people to carry it.

If you're interested in giving the Sperax Walking Pad Treadmill a go, you can purchase it from Amazon here for £229.99 while the sale lasts. Alternatively, Argos has the Dynamax RunningPad Folding Treadmill priced at £550, while Debenhams is selling a 2 in 1 Folding Treadmill at a reduced price of £249.95.
