How a dry January won't stop liver disease
DITCHING alcohol over January is not enough to repair the liver and keep it healthy, experts warn.
The British Liver Trust wants the Government to make early liver screening available to help save one million lives a year.
Liver disease is the fifth biggest killer in the UK.
There are no early warning signs but tests can identify signs of damage before it’s too late.

The trust’s chief executive Andrew Langford said: “An alcoholic drink every night, over-indulging in rich food too frequently and not taking regular exercise are major contributing factors for liver disease.
“To repair the liver and keep it healthy, follow our three-step plan all year round: take two to three days off alcohol every week. Get regular exercise and cut down on sugar and fat.”
