An expert is sounding the alarm, cautioning UK residents about a basic loo habit that's compromising "public health and safety".

Plumbing expert Steven Parker is flagging a common blunder the nasty outcome of flushing the toilet lid-up.

The expert from Badeloft Bathrooms is urging folks to take heed of the peril, stressing it's even more risky in hospitals, following fresh intel indicating a single flush can launch thousands of micro droplets into the air.

This can include loo water, faecal particles and bacteria jetting nearly five feet, as per the specialist's claim.

He shared a stark warning: "Flushing with the lid up allows harmful particles to become airborne and settle on surfaces throughout the bathroom. This is particularly concerning in hospitals, where the spread of infections can have severe consequences."

He's pressing those at home and massively those running healthcare joints to rethink their toilet tactics advising a shut-lid flush to curb risks.

The expert advises: "This is a small yet vital step towards improving public health and safety. Reducing the spread of infectious particles in bathrooms is an essential aspect of infection control, especially in hospital settings."

Another expert from Badeloft Bathrooms, Lisa Jones, has shed light on additional bathroom blunders that unwittingly put our health in jeopardy.

She particularly cautioned against the seemingly harmless habit of using the same towel repeatedly after showers or baths.

She pointed out that although it might seem like a money-saver and reduce laundry frequency, damp towels can become a "perfect breeding ground for bacteria and mould".

Reusing the same towel too many times before washing it could lead to skin infections and unpleasant odours.

Jones starkly brought to attention: "Shockingly, a towel can harbour more bacteria than a toilet seat! Make sure to change your towel every two to three days and dry them thoroughly after each use."

Furthermore, she advised against keeping your cosmetics or makeup tools in the bathroom as they can deteriorate quickly due to humidity and absorb harmful bacteria. This, when applied to the face, can result in skin infections and pimples.
