For some of us, having a double chin is a big insecurity. While it is natural to have an excess of fat under the lower jaw, many would prefer to get rid of it.

It can be caused by many factors aside from weight, from genetics to age and posture. And us Brits are particularly embarrassed by the feature. A survey from 2017 found that the double chin is among the top three facial problems British women feel they have - and the top four for men.

In addition, 31 percent of men with a double chin said they would grow a beard to hide it. But what can we do to tackle the problem of a double chin directly?

One expert shared a simple three step routine to help reduce your double chin.

Angela Rosoff, a certified face yoga instructor and yoga teacher at Luvly, revealed the following exercises to ditch the unwanted flab in collaboration with posture bra company Etalon.

Head lifts

Pull your shoulders up, back, and down. Allow your solar plexus to press forward, gently lift your head up, and rotate your head from side to side.

Complete this pose within the time of taking three deep breaths and exhales. Repeat three to five times.

Kissing face

Gently place your hands across your body onto opposite shoulders. Move your lips over to the right, gently move your head to the right and up as if you are kissing someone who is above and behind your right side.

Then reverse the pose onto your left side. Hold for two breaths. Exhale and relax. Repeat three times.

Mewing

Place your entire tongue on the roof of your mouth. If placing the whole tongue is too difficult, begin with the tip of your tongue on the roof of your mouth.

Gently open the mouth while keeping the tongue firmly on the roof. This lifts the lower chin.

Mewing is a relatively well known technique, which was first introduced by orthodontist John Mew in the 1990s.

It gained popularity as people wanted to see if they could alter the shape of their jaw.

WebMD explains: "The basic idea behind mewing is that you can change the shape of your jawline if you think about the placement of your tongue in your mouth.”

Some people also claim it can help with sleep apnoea, sinusitis, and other conditions.

However, there has been “no serious research” into whether the method can actually alter the jawline.
