However, there is a way to “ensure a fiery red spectacular display of fall colours” in your Japanese maples, according to gardening expert Michael Francis at Maple Ridge Nursery. He claims that the three strategies to achieving this are through placement, pruning, and proper care practices.

Place your maples where they can receive sufficient sunlight to “enhance colour intensity”. Most Japanese maples prefer a situation where they can get some direct morning sun and then be protected by shade during the hotter afternoon hours.
