Houseplants are the perfect way to breathe some colour and life into your home. And you don't need to be a green-fingered expert in order to care for them - there are plenty of low-maintenance options out there to choose from.

You also don't need a large home flooded with natural light if you want to add some houseplants to your space. According to the plant pros at Beards and Daises, there are five excellent options that thrive even in small flats. Whether you’ve got a bright bay window, a shaded nook, or just a spare shelf, these plants are chosen for their low-maintenance nature, compact growth, and interior style appeal.

Best houseplants for flats

1. Fiddle leaf fig
