Gardeners have discovered that a common household ingredient, costing just 80p, can breathe new life into peace lilies and act as a natural pest deterrent.

This budget-friendly secret weapon is none other than cinnamon, known for its myriad uses beyond the kitchen.

Peace lilies can sometimes suffer from various issues such as wilting, fungal infections, and pest infestations.

However, cinnamon, a staple spice found in most pantries, can address these problems effectively.

Experts at Sefton Meadows Garden Centre explain that cinnamon's antifungal properties make it an excellent remedy for peace lilies struggling with root rot or fungal infections.

Sprinkling cinnamon on the soil surface or directly onto the plant's roots during repotting can help combat these issues, promoting healthier growth.

A green-thumbed enthusiast from Voice of Plant further added: "Cinnamon works wonders by preventing fungus and mildew from developing on your plants. It's a natural solution that’s both cost-effective and environmentally friendly."

In addition to its antifungal benefits, cinnamon is also a powerful deterrent for pests.

Garden pests like ants, gnats, and even certain types of beetles are repelled by cinnamon's strong scent.

By sprinkling cinnamon around the base of peace lilies or other houseplants, gardeners can keep these unwelcome visitors at bay.

To apply cinnamon for reviving peace lilies, gardeners can mix a teaspoon of ground cinnamon into the top layer of soil or create a cinnamon spray by mixing cinnamon with water.

This spray can be used on the leaves and soil to provide ongoing protection against pests and diseases.

By incorporating this common household ingredient into their plant care routine, they can enjoy the dual benefits of enhanced plant health and effective pest control.
