Tried and tested: The best Christmas puddings
THE best Christmas puddings to enjoy over the festive season.
Lidl Deluxe Matured Christmas Pudding
454g, £3.69
A simple, slightly cloying pudding that’s nothing spectacular to look at but is a decent budget option. 6/10
Bettys Vintage Christmas Pudding
800g, £17.95 (0845 600 1919, www.bettys.co.uk)
Packaged in a lovely box, this looks the best but it’s also the most expensive. The sponge is rich but light with plenty of fruit. 7/10
M&S Collection Christmas Pudding
907g, £10
An old-fashioned, quality Christmas pudding that’s full of flavour and fruit. A well-balanced, straight-to-the-point classic. 8/10
Waitrose Christmas Cherry & Almond Glitter Top Pudding
907g, £14.99
I really like the cherry and almond topping, but the edible glitter is a step too far. There’s plenty of fruit and a pleasant punch of Cognac, but it’s a tad too sticky for me. 8/10
Tesco Finest 18 Month Matured Christmas Pudding
907g, £10
A rich, firm, fruity pud with a full, beautifully balanced flavour. 9/10
