Potatoes are the ultimate side dish - there is so much you can do with them. Melting potatoes are crispy golden brown roast potatoes that have a beautiful creamy and almost buttery interior, thanks to the potatoes being cooked with a broth. Whilst that already sounds extraordinary, there's actually something that is supposed to make the potatoes even better - in fact, even "perfect" them.

And this one ingredient might be new to many people. The unusual ingredient revealed on food website The Kitchn is miso paste—a traditional Japanese seasoning made from soybeans. As of now, miso paste is on a half-price offer in Sainsbury's, costing as little as 90p.

The post reads: "One easy way to make melting potatoes even better? Add miso paste. White miso brings a deep, savoury umami flavour that enhances the buttery richness of the potatoes."

Melting potatoes will go with pretty much anything, whether you're making a roast dinner, a nice steak, or even a simple salad. This potato dish is the ultimate go to and with the special ingredient, your whole meal will be completely transformed.

"As they cook, the miso infuses them with a salty, slightly sweet flavour that's seriously delicious. It's a simple upgrade that takes this already perfect side dish to the next level," the post continues.

Preparing melting potatoes with miso paste couldn't be any easier and with how delicious they come out, there is no reason that homecooks should test out the dish using the Japanese seasoning.

Method:

  1. Peel and two pounds of uniformly sized Yukon gold potatoes into 1-inch-thick rounds. Toss the potatoes with 4 tablespoons of melted unsalted butter. Arrange them in a large oven-safe skillet or metal baking dish and spoon any remaining butter on top.
  2. Roast at 500F/260C/Gas Mark 10 for 15 minutes. Then flip the potatoes and cook for another 15 minutes, until the bottoms and tops are deep golden-brown.
  3. Whisk 1 cup of low-sodium vegetable or chicken broth and 2 tablespoons of white miso paste in a liquid measuring cup until combined. Pour the broth into the dish and cook for another 15 minutes until the potatoes are very tender.
