Crumpets taste great buttered, but have you ever felt the urge to try something braver with the toasted delight?

TikTok food expert Emily (@emilyscooking) has - and much to the delight of her 143,000 followers, she has shared her mouth-watering recipe online. "I've been on a crumpet hype this year, I should probably stop but I can't," she joked in the caption to her latest video.

The clip begins with Londoner Emily slicing the crumpet in half with a bread knife in the same way you would a bread roll. Next, she spreads butter then pickle on the surface of the bottom half before adding a slice of cheese. She then adds the crumpet's top layer, and spreads on another layer of pickle.

A second cheese slice follows, before Emily drizzles Worcestershire sauce on top her creation. With the toaster now ruled out, Emily completes her crumpet by placing it in the air fryer for five to 10 minutes.

Commenting on her delicacy, she gushed: "This was so delicious and the crumpet soaked up all the flavours! By making it this way you can add fillings inside and on the top."

It prompted scores of foodies to respond in awe, desperate to try it out for themselves. "Think you just changed my life... genius," one TikTok user declared.

Others were quick to add further ideas with their own interpretations of Emily's cooking skills. One TikTok user suggested using cheese and tomato puree to create "pizza crumpets", whilst a second declared marmite and scrambled egg crumpets to be "game-changers".

Whilst a thir person came up with their own proposal, pondering: "Now why the hell have I never done this? Genius! Oooh imagine with jam. Or even cheese and jam. I love that combo."
