Aston Martin DBX SUV production confirmed - Here's when the new car will be built
ASTON Martin has confirmed that it will start making its first ever SUV in 2019 after acquiring a brand new production facility.
Aston Martin has announced that it will start producing its first ever SUV in 2019.
It will be but at its new car production facility at St Athan in South Wales.
Aston Martin Lagonda is a luxury automotive group focused on the creation of exclusive vehicles and also SUVs and will see the companies first SUV produced here.
The firm’s board of directors had their first meeting at the new facility, which consists of three converted former-Minister of Defence hangars.
This new plant has already seen 150 new workers recruited and it is thought that 750 new jobs will be created as a result.
Dr Andy Palmer, Aston Martin President and Chief Executive Officer, said: “We are delighted at the progress being made at the St Athan site.
“The team have done a fantastic job in advancing the facility and I was incredibly proud to chair our first Board meeting at the new plant.
“Wales has a long history of engineering excellence and the Board is delighted that it will play such an important part in Aston Martin’s development.”
Aston Martin previously debuted the DBX Concept which revealed a design study of what the car could look like.
This concept first launched in 2015 but it has taken three years to come to fruition.
Rumours have suggested that the car could be called Varekai after the name was patented.
