Diesel cars scrapped in 2018 - Here are the vehicles you’ll no longer to be able to buy
CAR manufacturers have ditched a number of diesel cars in the UK over the course fo 2018. Here's what models have been killed off so far.
Pros and cons of diesel and petrol car engine emissions
Over the course of 2018, a number of diesel cars have been scrapped by car manufacturers.
This is as a result of the prolific diesel emissions scandal of 2015 and the condemnation of the fuel type over the past few years.
Diesel cars are readily declining in popularity and new regulations are being put into force to reduce the use of them.
This includes them being banned in a number of German cities and also the proposed ban of them by 2040 in the UK.
Clean air zones, increased car tax, and extra parking fees could be imposed on UK motorists to restrict the use of them across the country.
In addition to this, the stricter WLTP emissions standard that was introduced in September are making them harder to produce and manufacture.
A list compiled by Autocar, claims there have been at least 17 different diesel models ditched in 2018.
This includes complete model ranges such from carmakers such as Volvo and Fiat Crysler by 2022.
Volvo stated that it would not be introducing more new diesel cars post-V60 launch and Subaru, Suzuki and Porsche have ditched diesel due to a lack of demand.
These include the Fiat 500X, Kia Rio, Mitsubishi Outlander, and Vauxhall Corsa.
Other models that have been ditched include the Honda CR-V, Kia Venga, Mitsubishi ASX, Mitsubishi Outlander, Porsche Macan, Porsche Panamera, Seat Toledo, Skoda Fabia, Toyota Avensis, Toyota RAV4 and Toyota Verso.
