Hybrid cars UK - Here’s why manufacturers are blocking you from buying them
CERTAIN car manufacturers are blocking motorists from buying hybrid cars in the UK to focus on petrol and diesel vehicles.
Honda CRV: New petrol-electric hybrid model
Sales of certain plug-in hybrid cars have been halted after the tough new WLTP tests were introduced.
Carmakers are feeling the pressure to make their petrol and diesel cars meet these latest standards.
As a result, a number of German car manufacturers have ceased orders on their plug-in hybrid (PHEV) cars.
Volkswagen has stopped taking orders for its hybrid Golf and Passat model for the time being, according to AutoExpress.
Both cars are likely to reappear at some point next year and the Passat is due to receive a facelift soon too.
Porsche, who is owned by VW, has also stopped taking orders for the Panamera and Cayenne E-Hybrid cars.
The news that Porsche has temporarily stopped taking orders of its hybrid cars follows the carmaker axing new diesel from its lineup.
BMW has also done the same form the X5, 3 Series and 7 Series and iPerformance models.
However, the German carmaker is set to launch the new-generation hybrid cars next year.
The carmaker is still selling its 2 Series, 5 Series, and i8 supercar hybrids.
The Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) emissions rules saw certain model ranges axed.
It also caused carmakers and dealers try and clearcut thousands of pre-registered cars or new models that would not meet the new emissions standards.
This triggered a record-breaking 94,094 vehicles being registered by the DVLA in August, which was a rise of 23 per cent compared to the previous year.
