Chikungunya Virus

A viral disease primarily transmitted to humans by mosquitoes, Chikungunya is characterised by an abrupt onset of fever, accompanied by debilitating joint pain. First identified in Tanzania in 1952, it has since been reported in over 60 countries. Symptoms include muscle pain, headache, nausea, fatigue, and rash. There is no specific treatment, but supporting care alleviates symptoms. Efforts to control mosquito populations remain crucial in preventing outbreaks.
