Christmas carols? No thanks
CAROL singers bring out the Scrooge in Britons, according to a new survey.
Nearly a third will refuse to give any money and do not want them on their doorstep.
Another one-in-five will not answer the door.
A small minority, 3 per cent, would even ask carol singers to leave if they found them on their doorstep.
And 22 per cent of people want carol singing banned, a poll for Ecclesiastical Insurance found.
The specialist insurers were so appalled they are now launching a contest with a £1,000 prize for the best new carol.
A spokesman said: “Our survey’s results made for pretty disheartening reading.
“It’s a sad state of affairs and we want to do something about it.
“We hope to get people to think again about carols and see them in a new light.”
It has launched a competition to compose a new carol less than four minutes long.
